What is Taekwondo ?
Taekwondo is the Korean art of self-defense and means “The Art of Hand and Foot Fighting”. Taekwondo indicates the technique of unarmed combat for self-defense, involving skilled application of punches, kicks, blocks, dodges and restraints. Most of all Taekwondo is about self-imposed discipline.

Am I too old to start?
No, we have people from the age of 4 upwards who train in Taekwondo.  You are your own limits. AGE is just a number.

How old must my children be before the can start Taekwondo ?
We take them in our junior class from around 4 years of age at Llangollen Tae Kwon Do.

Do I have to be fit?
NO! Taekwondo will improve your own level of fitness.

Do I have to be flexible?
NO! Taekwondo will improve your flexibility and mobility and your basic all round fitness.

Do I have to have a special uniform?
NO! Any loose fitting clothes will do, i.e. tracksuit bottoms and a tee-shirt.

Who will be in my class?
At Llangollen Tae Kwon Do you will be training along side students of all abilities and grades. The classes cover various aspects of the syllabus allowing everyone to train together.

 

Will I be able to defend myself?
YES! the skills you will learn will enable you to react to different attack situations using either blocks, restraints, punches, kicks that have been taught in the class

Do I have to grade (take belts)?
No, grading’s are purely optional and are held every 3 months. Once the level of blue belt is reached grading’s become 6 months apart.

Can I achieve my black belt?
Yes! There are ten steps to get to Black Belt.  You start as a white belt and progress through the grades upto Black Belt.  It takes about 3 1/2 years to reach your goal of Black Belt.  This will enable you to become mentally and physically competent at Taekwondo .

Do I have to enter competitions?
Competitions are purely optional at Llangollen Tae Kwon Do, however they are a great way of improving your Taekwondo skills. Whether that is by performing your patterns or by sparring. All competitions are ran by the TAGB to a very professional standard. The competitions are held regionally, nationally and internationally and are split into men, women, boys and girls, in your own belt divisions and then into weights for adults and heights for children.

Does Taekwondo cater for people with disabilities?
YES! We can make Taekwondo fit your abilities. The TAGB have many students who have disabilities, i.e. amputees, blind, and deaf, etc.
