Why begin Tae Kwon-Do?

This is my story…

Hi, I’m Roddie Milne, 2nd Dan black belt & qualified T.A.G.B. Tae Kwon-Do instructor.

It all began for me when I took my son aged 4 to his Tigers classes and watched for over a year before I finally summoned up the courage and joined in. I always wanted to try it, but felt I wasn't flexible enough (it soon improved).

I started in June 2006. Aged 32 and feeling quite uncomfortable, especially after learning I couldn't punch either (but that improved too).

I only intended to train so I could help my son & get a green, or maybe a blue belt!

I soon got bitten by the TKD bug and have practiced Tae Kwon-Do for over 10 years now. My son and I both earned our black belts back in October 2010 and our 2nd Dan in 2014. My 4 children all practice Tae Kwon-Do and like many other families, it's something we can all do together and it's a way of life for us.

I started Llangollen Tae Kwon Do because I want to give more people the opportunity to experience the same enjoyment I get from Tae Kwon-Do, the benefits of understanding the capabilities of your own body and the confidence that comes from knowing you can protect yourself and, as in my case, the comfort that comes from the knowledge that practicing Tae Kwon-Do means my children will be able to grow up never having to feel intimidated.

This is something I would imagine all parents would wish for their children, but there are few people who really appreciate all the advantages of being a martial artist, other than those who have acquired the knowledge and practiced the art. I feel very fortunate that I decided to give it a go and I haven't looked back since. I hope my enthusiasm and commitment to the art will encourage people to try Tae Kwon-Do, enjoy it like I do and continue to practice the art and improve as they achieve their black belt and beyond.

I look forward to seeing you at Llangollen Tae Kwon Do soon at the beginning of your Tae Kwon-Do journey of discovery, enjoyment and self-improvement.

Yours in Tae Kwon-Do,

                           Roddie Milne
